Sculptra begins with a consultation, where our experienced practitioners assess your facial structure, skin quality and areas of volume loss. We will discuss your goals and create a personalised treatment plan, with most patients benefiting from 2 to 3 sessions spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart. Treatment usually takes 30 to 45 minutes, and a topical anaesthetic is applied first for comfort.
After treatment, some redness or slight swelling can occur for 24 to 48 hours. You will also be shown the 5x5x5 massage technique to support even distribution. Sculptra contains sterile poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) microspheres suspended in a water-based solution with sodium carboxymethylcellulose and mannitol. PLLA is a biocompatible, biodegradable material that’s been safely used in medical applications for decades.
After injection, PLLA particles create microscopic scaffolds in your deep dermis. Your body recognises these as foreign (but harmless) and responds by sending fibroblasts to the area.
