Lip fillers work by injecting a gel-like substance made of a hyaluronic acid base into the lips to add volume, shape, and definition. Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance found in the body, and it is particularly abundant in the skin, connective tissues, and eyes.
When injected into the lips, hyaluronic acid attracts and binds to water molecules, creating a plumping effect. This can help to increase the size of the lips, smooth out fine lines and wrinkles around the mouth, and improve the overall contour and shape of the lips.
The effects of hyaluronic acid lip fillers are not permanent and typically last between 6 to 18 months. Over time, the hyaluronic acid is gradually absorbed by the body, and the lips will return to their original size and shape.
The duration of lip fillers can vary depending on the type of filler used, an individual metabolism, and the injection technique. However, on average, hyaluronic acid-based lip fillers typically last between 6 to 18 months.
After the initial injection, the filler gradually breaks down and is absorbed by the body. As the filler dissolves, the lips will gradually return to their original size and shape. Some people may find that the duration of their lip fillers is shorter or longer than this average timeframe, based on factors such as their individual metabolism and the amount of filler injected.
It is important to note that the longevity of lip fillers can also be affected by lifestyle factors such as smoking, sun exposure, and alcohol consumption. These factors can cause the filler to break down more quickly, resulting in a shorter duration of results.
The cost of lip fillers can vary depending on several factors, including the type of filler used and the amount of filler required. The amount can vary from 0.5mL, 0.7mL and upwards of 1mL of Lip Filler depending on the patient’s desired results. Check out our price-list to find out more on the cost of our treatments.
The healing time for lip fillers varies per person. In general, most people will experience some swelling, redness, and tenderness in the lips immediately after the injection, which may last for several days.
Typically, the initial swelling and bruising will start to subside within 24 to 48 hours after the procedure. However, it may take up to 2 weeks for the lips to fully heal and for the final results to be visible.
Swelling is a common side effect of lip fillers, and it can take a few days to subside. However, there are several things you can do to help reduce swelling and discomfort after the procedure:
Apply ice: Applying ice to the treated area can help to reduce swelling and numb any discomfort. Use a cold pack or a bag of frozen peas wrapped in a towel and apply it to the lips for 10 to 15 minutes at a time.
Avoid heat: Avoid exposure to heat, direct sunlight or sunbeds for at least 24 hours after the procedure, as this can worsen swelling.
Stay hydrated: Drinking plenty of water can help to flush out any excess fluids in the body and reduce swelling.
Elevate your head: Sleeping with your head elevated on pillows can help to reduce swelling by promoting blood circulation.
Avoid alcohol and salty foods: Alcohol and salty foods can dehydrate the body and worsen swelling. It is best to avoid these for at least 24 hours after the procedure.
It is not recommended to smoke after lip filler for at least 24 hours, as smoking can increase the risk of complications and slow down the healing process.
Smoking can cause vasoconstriction, which is the narrowing of blood vessels, leading to decreased blood flow and oxygen supply to the treated area. This can increase the risk of infection, delayed healing, and poor results.
Additionally, smoking can also cause dehydration, which can worsen swelling and discomfort after the procedure. It is best to avoid smoking for at least 24 hours after the procedure to allow the body to heal properly and reduce the risk of complications.
